My initial thought was that he 100% threw too but come to think of it more he could have just blundered. Perhaps have a separate competition for people who have previously competed, and another for people like Wilson and Masi Oka who are celebrities and genuinely good at chess. I like the idea of it as a competition for people who have never played, who are coached for 4-6 weeks by professionals, and then set against each other. In fact, truth be told, I'm not even convinced that people should be allowed to participate twice. So I can see why he would do it.īut the problem is clearly that he shouldn't be in the competition at all, because he's way better than everybody else. And she was a good sport about it, and in their banter between the games was telling him how she appreciated the opportunity to learn from him. Khare is a nice person who has poured her heart and soul into this over the last month, and I don't expect the first match was any more fun for him than it was for her - or for us watching, come to that.

Yeah, I don't think Rozman was joking about filing a complaint, and I don't think he'd have been convinced by Wilson's performance, either. It’s understandable, but he definitely threw at least some of the blunders. He didn’t want to seem like the bad guy bully and crush someone’s chess dreams in front of a ton of people so he threw. Nobody who didn’t plan to throw would be able to be that openly happy about having her win a game. One or 2 blunders are natural for players playing fast and with nerves, but it seemed as if he felt bad for her and was trying to give her a chance. It’s similar to what I say to my little cousins when I handicap myself in some game “oh well if I handicapped myself u still gotta beat me.” In addition, the comment of “oh you only have 6 minutes to checkmate me” is so obviously a ploy. it is clear his fundamental understanding and comfortability of the game is higher than everyone else’s. Blocking escape squares from the king rather than checking. He was fast and utilizing deeper concepts. I could tell that he was just as strong if not stronger than me at 1600. I am no pro, but I am comfortable when playing the game and have plenty of online and otb experience.
